Israel, Sep 28: The annual day celebrations of Honnavar parishioners and Indian expatriates under Karwar Diocesan Catholic Community (KDCC), Israel was held at Tel Aviv here, recently.
Bishop Dr Derek Fernandes of Karwar diocese offered the Holy Mass at St Anthony’s church, along with Fr Praveen D’Souza, Nakre. Over 1,000 Konkani faithful attended the Holy Mass. St Anthony’s parish priest Fr Toufiq welcomed the Bishop Derek Fernandeds after the Holy Mass.
Prakash Vaz Gundibala, Gurkar of Honnavar ward, welcomed the gathering for the cultural programmes held at Bet Bar Bar here in the evening. Jacob Fernandes presented the annual report. Bishop Derek renamed the Honnavar ward as KDCC on the occasion.
Bishop Derek released the special issue of Darshan, monthly journal and Prakash Fernandes of lower Kasarkod released Ujwad, CD of Konkani devotional hymns by Minin Rodrigues of Hosad.
Fr Arthur of St Anthony’s Church, Yaffo, Fr Praveen D’Souza of Karkaal and Fr Arock of Chikmagalur also shared their mission experiences in Israel.
Konkani Catholic Sangatan (KCS) president Praveen Pereira Taccode and Israel Community Israel (ICI) president John D’Souza were also present. Bishop Derek urged the parishioners of entire Karwar and those serving in Israel to share a bond with one another.
The parishioners Savita and Suvarna staged entertaining dance performances and Nofiam Friends, Israel staged traditional folk dances as part of the entertainment programme. Mai Gaonv, Konkani play by playwright Dreamer Jacob Israel that conveyed the significance of motherland among the Indian expatriates of Konkani origin was also staged on the occasion. Konkani singer Prakash Fernandes of lower Kasarkod enthralled the audiences with his melodious music.
