Portuguese motorbike rider dies in crash at Dakar Rally


Riyadh, Jan 12 (IANS): Portuguese motorbike rider Paulo Goncalves passed away after a crash during the seventh stage of Dakar Rally here on Sunday.

According to a BBC report, the 40-year-old suffered the fatal accident after 276 km of the seventh stage.

A statement from the organisers said that he was brought dead to a hospital after having been found unconscious after suffering a cardiac arrest.

"The entire Dakar caravan would like to extend its sincere condolences to his friends and family," the statement said as per the BBC report.
