Dubai, Jan 13: Founder and chairperson Dr Zulekha Daud and other former Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardees were honoured by Indian Ambassador to the UAE Pavan Kapoor and Consul General of India in Dubai Shri Vipul at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Non Resident Indian-NRI Day) celebrations at the Indian Consulate in Dubai on January 9.
The day is celebrated every year to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India on January 9, 1915, and recognize the contribution of overseas Indian community in the development of India.
The celebrations at the consulate of India in Dubai were attended by the Indian community in Dubai. A panel discussion led by Vipul on community issues was hosted, in which key elements of uplifting the society with mutual support from successful Indian leaders was discussed and encouraged. There was also the live-streaming of a speech by the External Affairs Minister of India Subramanyam Jaishankar from India.
Dr Zulekha Daud is the first recognised Indian woman medical professional and senior-most lady entrepreneur in UAE who has worked tirelessly towards the welfare of Emiratis and expats when healthcare access was very limited in the 1960’s.
