Hooda holds Cong 'unity show' at lunch

New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS): Former Haryana Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday sought to project the party's united stand at a lunch he hosted at his residence ahead of an Opposition meeting over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Several senior Congress leaders -- Ahmed Patel, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Jairam Ramesh, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Kumari Selja, P. Chidambaram and Prithviraj Chavan and others-- attended the luncheon.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Priyanka Cahturvedi also attended the lunch.

Hooda's "unity show" is the first such occasion after the Haryana assembly polls held last year in which Congress had improved its tally, though BJP with the help of Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janta Party formed the government in the state.

The Congress under Selja and Hooda managed to win 31 out of 90 seats, improving the party tally of 15 seats in 2014 polls.

Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi has convened a meeting of Opposition leaders over the CAA and the NRC on Monday.
