Bengaluru: Petition seeking judicial probe into Mangaluru firing - HC serves notice to state govt

Bengaluru, Jan 15: The state high court (HC), on Tuesday, January 14, issued notice to the state government relating to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed in the HC seeking instructions to the state government to order judicial probe into Mangaluru firing. Police firing during December 19 disturbances during anti Citizenship Amendment Act protests had claimed two lives.

The current petition has been filed by B K Mohammed Iqbal Elimale and B Ummer from Sullia taluk. The division bench of the HC which heard the public interest litigation filed by the two, directed the state government to file a report on the current state of affairs and steps taken so far relating to the said incident.

The HC also directed issuance of notices to state government chief secretary, state director general of police, and Mangaluru city police commissioner Dr P S Harsha, who have been named in the PIL, asking them to file objections if any within two weeks.

    No life was at stake mister. Watch the videos properly, the crowd was peacefully protesting. It was the cops who started goondaism by beating up the protesters which was not at all needed, that's when things went wrong. Ofcourse they further made it worse by shooting people. Complete failure of handling situation the right way, i won't say immature, maybe it was politically motivated with orders from higher up. Anyways there was no threat to any lives, so please don't spread false propagandas imagined in your head.

    What ever the outcome of the honorable court's observations/decision..., eternal fact remains..., the cry of innocent blood will definitely heard by LORD BRAHMA and he will wait for his time to set things right....!!! afterall one who created this universe know very well how to take care of it & set it right also..., the joker human's who does heinous acts and defend it in the name of faith & religion..., and those who support such ideology actively or passively are answerable to LORD BRAHMA...,

    Dear Mamu,

    it is all fabricated story by the police. No one tried to loot the police station.

    in one video which happened near central market it is clearly seen that the RSS chaddi people throwing stones at the crowd in order to instigate the violence.

    Also see the video of 2 pm, when the crowd came shouting slogans from Nellikai road they did not throw stones on the police. As the protesters try to sit on the road, police resorted to lathicharge and then the crowd ran towards rao and rao circle.

    There is video recording where Harsha says to his subordinates --- why you shoot on air, at least one or two must be killed .. Is this is a word of police commissioner?

    Pelting stones was required?

    Curfew was in place. If you see the video made public by HDK itself, protesters were dispersed twice by the police before the firing happened. If the protesters cooled down, then these shooting and killing could have been avoided. Police have to enforce curfew to avoid mass scale violence.

    But protesters resorted to heavy throwing stones there after and firing happened.

    Yes. Police has to answer, why warning shots in air was not fired and direct shots were fired.

    We all have to agree that stone pelting culture should first stop in our districts. This was the main reason for firing.
