Bantwal: Accident near Kodangai results in one death, injuries to nine

Bantwal, Jan 15: One person died while nine others including children were injured in an accident which happened at Radhukatte near Kodangai on Vittal-Salethur Road on Tuesday, January 14.

The accident happened after a Tata Venture passenger vehicle and a Maruti Omni van hit each other. Abdulla Haji (65) from Kandadka, who suffered serious injuries, died. His son Ashraf (40), who was driving the Omni, wife Asiyamma (60), Maimoona (30) from Kundadka, Kauliyat (28) from Ukkuda, a five-year-old child, and two six-month-old babies, were injured. All the injured were admitted into K S Hegde Hospital at Deralakatte.

Anand (32) from Manchi, who was riding the Tata Venture vehicle, and Ramachandra Nayak (45), were injured. They were provided initial treatment at Vittal community health centre before being shifted to a hospital for advanced treatment.

The Omni was returning to Vittal via Salethur after visiting Deralakatte when it got involved in an accident with the Venture vehicle that was approaching from the direction of Vittal. Eight persons travelling by the Omni were members of a single family. It is said that the accident occurred as the Venture unexpectedly moved to the right side of the road.

Vittal police visited the spot, registered a case and undertook probe.
