Mangaluru: Anti-CAA protest - One lac people expected, security strengthened

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 15: As many as 28 different organizations, under the leadership of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada District Muslim Central Committee, have planned to hold a mega protest meeting on Wednesday January 15 at Adyar. About one lac people are expected to take part in the event.

In the meantime, security has been beefed up and police have been keeping a close watch on developments all over the coast. The city has bitter memory of two youngsters losing their lives after the protest organized on December 19 turned violent, forcing the police to open fire. Against these deaths, and seeking action against those responsible for the act, various protests were held in different parts of the state. Therefore, security has been tighter this time to ensure that no
untoward incidents happen. Over 3,000 police personnel have been deployed on security duty.

Retired IAS officers Harsh Mandar and Kannan Gopinathan, apart from retired Supreme Court judge Justice Gopala Gowda, human rights activist Shivasundar, and advocate Sudheer Kumar Maroli, will be delivering the main addresses.

Going by the December 19 experience, the police have been refusing permission to hold any kind of protest at Nehru Maidan. The Muslim Central Committee has shifted the venue of the protest to Shaha Garden ground at Adyar Kannur, although initially it was insistent on holding it at Nehru Maidan. The protest will go on from 2.30 pm to 6 pm. Congress and several like-minded organizations have extended support to this programme.

In view of this programme, traffic on national highway 75 between Mangaluru and Bengaluru has been changed. LPG tankers have been barred from using this road from 9 am to 9 pm today.

Muslim Central Committee has said that the theme of the protest is national flag in one hand, constitution in the other, non-violence in mind, and 'Jana Gana Mana' on lips. It said that the protest will be very peaceful, and that this protest is not against anyone, but for the protection of constitutional rights. It said that the meet is not restricted to Muslims, and people from all faiths will participate.

Our entire political system is secular and all the people of country are to be considered as Indians first.
Religion wise denomination only for peoples self religious needs. Why CAA is picking people (minorities) who are subjected to political prosecution in the three neighboring countries. (excluding Muslim community.)
Now NRC issue, UP has already identified 321,000 refugees who have migrated from Bangladesh decades ago. Even the final documentation on NRC is not published or pending at SC. Looks like; things are moving ahead as pre-planned programs ????

Muslim or non muslim, everybody has the right to protest. In democracy that is the first fundamental right. Others are secondary. Please do not use sec 144 and spoil the peace. Protest does not mean they are anti national.

CAA is already passed by the Parliament and implemented and will benefit those who have come from three neighbouring countries fleeing religious persecution. Hope the protesters understand that CAA will give relief to those who had faced great hardships and atrocities in their countries because of their religion. CAA will not have any impact on citizens. Rather they should now protest against NRC which is yet to be announced and implemented. Further the organizers who are mainly religious leaders should also appeal to their counterparts across the borders to take concrete steps to stop persecution of minorities in their countries so that they are not forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in India.

What is the point of doing these things.? CAA/NRC was in the manifesto of NDA and they were voted to power with absolute majority by the people of Republic of India. Also, CAA/NRC doesntnt violate any provisions mentioned in the Constitution. So, obviously SC wont be able to change anything regarding this. And moreover, this doesn't affect any existing Indian Citizen. These kind of of circus will further alienate the Muslim Community from rest of the Population. Good luck

If this is discrimination why we have separate minority commission. This CAA is similar to reservation which we have to help the deprived people .And top of this even if it discriminatory (which it isn't )this discrimination is against Pakistani people why in the world should Indians be bothered.

@ Raam , CAA/NRC violates Article 14 of our constitution. Laws cant be made on religious lines , our constitution prohibits it. SC and any government in power must follow the constitutional guidlines. It cant function on whims based on individual ideologies.
May be, it doesn't effect you as you might be privileged class & your rights well protected, but for those participating its matter of life/death. How can holding Indian Flag & constitution & singing national anthem alienate from other Indians. its right of people to oppose peacefully & every Indian should be doing that, hope remember this famous poem by German Lutheran "First they came …"

Dont simply throw words wothout reading and understanding the Constitution. Only Whatsapp graduated lawyers will say it violates Article 14. Have patience to listen what SC says. And if we go by what you are saying, then this Govt must scrap/amend Article 29

BJP came to power by manipulating EVM . This is open secret as we all know.

CAA & NRC is purely unconstitutional by EVM modi. Wait & see this corrupt government will be forced to withdraw and at any cost this act will not be implemented for sure.

This gathering is consist of all community but not only muslims, we will sing JANA GANA MANA which is more sweeter than the one suggested below

Jana Gana Mana is Compulsory as it is our National Anthem,
But i think Vande Mataram is not compulsory

Most of the people who are forcing others to sing Vande Matharam, those people may not be knowing even first 2 lines of the song properly

It should not be potrayed that only a certain community opposes CAA. I think ideally the Congi/ JDS/CPI leaders and supporters, irrespective of faith should be present in this protest in large number. All minority factions should also be present ,with gents and ladies included.
ONly then can we call this peaceful protest a 'grand success' & that would send strong signals sent to to the BJP Govt a the centre. We can then expect a roll back of CAA, NRC etc, only if we stand united,,
