Mangalore: District Celebrates Gandhi Jayanti as DCC Protests Against State Government

Mangalore, Oct 2: The district committee of Bharat Seva Dal and the Public Instruction Department celebrated Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary by garlanding his statue and felicitating freedom fighter Udupi Gundibail Ramarao Bakkillaya at the Town Hall on Friday October 2.
Bakkillaya, deputy commissioner (DC) V Ponnuraj, MLA Yogish Bhat, Bharat Seva Dal district president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, and members of Bharat Seva Dal garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
Later, in a programme held at the Town Hall, Bakkillaya was felicitated by the Seva Dal.
Congress Protest:
Meanwhile, the District Congress Committee (DCC) protested against the failures of the state government in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue near Town Hall.
Ramanath Rai, president, DCC, said that the state government is neglecting poor people and farmers. “Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa speaks about farmers but their problems have not been solved. Issuing of ration cards is also not done properly”, he added.
“State government is also not utilizing the funds released by the union government”, said Rai adding that the BJP does not know to rule and said it should awaken from the hangover of power before people begin to agitate in anger.
Congress leaders Ivan D’Souza, Kodijal Ibrahim, and Mamatha Gatti were present.
