Surat, Jan 21: It was one of those times when a real-life situation was like a Bollywood movie. A Surat couple who was on the cusp of getting married had a shocking revelation. The event which took place was rather odd when the father of the groom and the mother of the bride went missing a month before their kids' wedding. However, what is odd is not the fact that the parents went missing, it is that they are believed to have eloped.

The 48-year-old father of the groom and the 46-year mother of the bride who were neighbours long time back in Katargam area of Surat were reported to be quite close. The father identified as Rakesh is a textile businessman and also a property dealer. Rakesh who is also a member of a political party was reported missing since January 10. The mother of the bride identified as Swati who was close friends with Rakesh during her childhood days also disappeared around the same time. Swati whose family hails from Bhavnagar district got married to a diamond artisan who later become a broker.
When the younger couple dug deeper and connected the dots, they found out that their parents were allegedly in a relationship when they were in college.
“They knew each other since they lived in the same society. Some of their close friends informed us after they eloped and have had a relationship in the past too. However, Swati got engaged with her current husband in Navsari,” said a relative of both the families.
There are now two complaints of a missing person that have been registered with local police in Katargam from where the father went missing and in Navsari from where the bride's mother left her house. All the other family members also believe that the couple must have eloped.
The bride and groom who were planning their wedding for a year were set to get married in February. However, with the new possibility of their parents eloping, the couple has shunned the idea of getting married to each other as their parent's union would make them step-siblings.
