Congress dissolves Punjab unit sans President

New Delhi, Jan 21 (IANS): The Congress has dissolved its Punjab unit and all district units in the state while state chief Sunil Jhakhar has been retained.

A statement on this has been issued by party K.C. Venugopal said that "The Congress President has dissolved the state executive committee of Punjab and district Congress committee in the state."

On Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had met party interim chief Sonia Gandhi amid a tiff between senior leader Pratap Singh Bajwa and him. Party sources said that the issues of Rajya Sabha member Bajwa's tirade against the Chief Minister and the Cabinet expansion were also discussed.

Sonia Gandhi has constituted a coordination and manifesto implementation committee for all Congress-ruled states.

According to sources, the Chief Minister also shared his plans of approaching the Supreme Court over the controversial CAA.

The Punjab Assembly had passed a resolution against the CAA last week, days after the Kerala government also passed a resolution against the Act in the Assembly. Kerala was the first state to approach the Supreme Court over the CAA.
