'Kashmir to Kanyakumari' to fascinate viewers on Republic Day


New Delhi, Jan 23 (IANS): This year, the Centre Public Works Department (CPWD) tableau will be based on its horticulture department depicting Kashmir to Kanyakumari theme, an official said on Wednesday.

Explaining about the theme, a senior CPWD official said the front portion of the tableau will show the southernmost point Kanyakumari, surrounded by the sea, memorial of Swami Vivekananda.

The middle portion represents Sanchi Stupa, which is one of the oldest stone structures at Sanchi in Madhya Pradesh, spreading the "Message of peace".

In the side panel, Rajasthan represents the western part of the sub-continent showing the 'Jahaj' of the desert (Camel) and binds the country together with its diverse culture.

Apart from this, the ground artists showcase different religions representing unity and integrity.

The idea is to depict India oneness despite being home to different religions and languages. "In the tableau, different parts of country are shown, decorated with colourful and fragrant flowers," said a senior official.
