Mormugao, Jan 24: Earlier, Mormugao joint mamlatdar Saiesh Naik was gheraoed on Thursday by members of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC). This act was over deletion of names from the Mormugao constituency's voter list. It was alleged by GPCC that workers and municipal councillors owing allegiance to urban development minister Milind Naik were acting as booth-level officers by identifying and submitting names of non-BJP voters.
The mamlatdar claimed that he would re-enter the deleted names if he was provided proper documents. However, GPCC threatened to approach the Election Commission if proper action was not undertaken.
GPCC convener Amarnath Panjikar alleged that about 1,400 non-BJP voters were being deleted from the voter list of the Momugao constituency and about 750 new names were being added.
The joint mamlatdar, however, said that only 900 names were deleted and 282 new names were added. “The names were deleted after objections were raised and the procedure was followed," Panjikar said.
