Udupi: Seminar on Tax Collection for Chief Managers of Cooperative Banks

Udupi, Oct 11: A seminar for the chief managers of the agricultural service cooperative banks and cooperative credit societies in the district, was held on Saturday October 10 here, under the aegis of Karnataka State Cooperative Federation and the District Cooperative Union, at the Mahajan Hall Kidiyoor. The subject of the seminar was service tax, income tax and profession tax.

Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Union president Raviraj Hegde inaugurated the programme. He noted that out of the cooperative institutions functioning in the country, about 40% are running under loss.  However, the cooperative institutions in the state and the coastal districts are being managed well and their results are good, he noted. The cooperative movement does not require high educational qualification to run them. However, managerial skills and intelligence are very much needed to ensure that they are run efficiently. The cooperative societies and banks in the twin-districts have proved that they are being skillfully operated and efficiently run, he added.

Udupi district president of the Cooperative Union, Kishan Hegde Kolkebail, presided. P L Jyotindra, registrar of cooperative societies, was the chief guest. Jayakar Shetty Indrali welcomed. H P Jagadish compered the programme.
