New Delhi, Jan 27: Kanara Cultural Association, here recently celebrated Christmas and New Year at Sahoday School auditorium, South Delhi. More than 200 families of Delhi and the surrounding areas took part in the celebrations.
Alwyn Norohna, executive vice-president (projects) ITC, shared his experience of growing up in a family and how it shapes one's life by binding to the community. He emphasized the importance of rooting oneself in the community and culture. He pointed out it was easy for the first and second generation but difficult for the third generation born and brought up in different cities. They need regular exposure to the community and functions, like the one organized by KCA which helps build a bond and bridge the gap with the community and strengthen KCA in Delhi.
Fr Rohan and Fr Victor D’Souza, former vicar-general of Delhi diocese celebrated the holy eucharist.



















KCA president, Pius Monteiro, welcomed the gathering and said, "KCA’s Christmas celebration is special in many ways. The most important reason is the visit to the house of senior members of KCA of the national capital region during the Christmas season. The new KCA initiative and visit generated goodwill and happiness in large measure among the KCA members. The visits also helped KCA to reach the lonely and aged."
Chief guest, Vasanth Shetty Bellare, chairman, Delhi Kannada Education Society and former president of Delhi Kannada Sangha was generous in his praise for the service the Konkani speaking Catholic community does in education and other areas in Delhi. He also emphasized the importance of language and the advantage of knowing Konkani, Tulu and Kannada.
Celebrations included Santa Claus, and fun-filled games for the members. Active participation by more than 40 children and youth in the competitions during the programme made everyone happy.
Former KCA presidents and executive committee members and area and zonal representatives were present.
Lancy Paul Furtado, former KCA treasurer was honoured.
Loyal compered the programme. Pius Monteiro, KCA president Melvin, cultural secretary Robert D’Souza and other members were present on the occasion.
