Goa leaders demand apology from Salman Khan over his act

Panaji, Jan 28: Cutting across party lines, the leaders in Goa on Tuesday demanded an apology from actor Salman Khan for his behaviour at the airport.

The actor, who arrived here for shooting of his upcoming flick, was seen in a video snatching a mobile phone of a fan at the arrival gate of Goa airport on Tuesday morning.

Former south Goa MP and state BJP General Secretary Narendra Sawaikar, in a tweet released here, demanded that the actor should tender an unconditional apology.

“Being a celebrity, people and your fans will take selfies in public places. Your attitude and behaviour is most deplorable. You have to tender an unconditional public apology,” Sawaikar tweeted.

South Goa BJP General Secretary Navin Pai Raikar tweeted “Uncle, this is not the way you behave in #Goa! Yea #Mumbai ka footpath nahi hai where you crush people under your car and get away! @BeingSalmanKhan you should apologise!.”

Congress’ student wing, National Students Union of India (NSUI), in a letter written to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said 'the authorities need to see the incident with utter seriousness'.

NSUI Goa Chief Ahraz Mulla said, “This is with regard to the recent video doing rounds on social media where Salman Khan is seen snatching the phone from a fan that is trying to click a selfie with the star.”

“I strongly believe and know that photography is not allowed at a defence airport, but we also need to understand the intention of the fan with which he was clicking the selfie without doing any harm to anyone,” he said.

“Also the way in which the actor dealt with the situation is very wrong, snatching the phone from a fan and thereby taking the law into his own hand is not acceptable. The same actor has been involved in many such controversies and has had a record of violent behaviour towards fans,” Mulla said.

The NSUI demanded that the authorities look into the matter with 'utter seriousness'. Mulla demanded an apology from the actor on public platform since it was a disgrace to the fan publicly, failing which such violent actors with a bad track with fans should not be allowed to visit Goa in future.
