Mangalore, Oct 6: Renowned ‘United Youngsters’ has been organizing various entertainment events throughout the year to mark its golden jubilee.

The valedictory ceremony of the grand golden jubilee celebrations will be held on Sunday October 18, at Milagres Hall in the city. Rt Rev Gerald Issac Lobo, Bishop of Shimoga, will preside over the function.

Capt Merwin Pinto, who is a former member of United Youngsters, besides being the producer of the first ever Konkani movie ‘Mog Ani Maipas’, will be the chief guest.

Seven founder members of United Youngsters—Wilfy Rebimbus, Donald D’Souza, Clifford D’Souza, Harry D’Silva, Vincent Lorena, Percy D’Sa, and Adolphus D’Souza—will be the special guests on the occasion.

To commemorate the event, United Youngsters will release a VCD of ‘Mog Ani Maipaas’, and a DVD of ‘Wilfy’s Golden Sentimental Nite’ held at TMA Pai Hall in August this year.

Repeated requests from Wilfy’s fans have led United Youngsters to come out with the discs.

Apart from the above, the distribution of a special edition of Wilfy’s Golden Collection comprising 40 volumes brought out this year will commence on the occasion. Those who have booked the set can collect their copies from the venue.

The golden jubilee celebrations had begun early this year with the staging of Konkani play, ‘Kon Kithem Munta’ which had won second place in the Daiji Dubai drama competition held in the city.

Later, in April, two books penned by United Youngsters head Wilfy Rebimbus were released—‘Kogull Gaitha’ a compilation of 500 songs of Wilfy and ‘Kogulle Patlyaan’ a study of Wilfy’s songs by Nandini (Stella D’Costa).

‘Wilfy’s Golden Sentimental Nite’, was held on August 2 and was one of the biggest events in the city. Thousands of the singers’ fans had to go home disappointed as they could not get tickets due to the overwhelming response. The event was held at TMA Pai Convention Hall in the city.

On August 15, Wilfy’s 247th Nite was staged at the city’s Don Bosco Hall. On the occasion, five senior artistes of ‘Wilfy Nite’ were honoured for service rendered over the past many years.

"CONGRATULATIONS" Wilfy Rebimbus and his esteemed family! You have spent sleepless nights, you have burnt the midnight oil, you have shed every your holy blood to selflessly serve Konkani and Kodiyaal.God bless you for honouring the six solid members of United Yougsters. 50 years is not a joke but a very great milestone in your musical journey.

Though this milestone has given birth to many inspiring Konkani leaders, it has all taken place due to the vision set by the great leader himself, mr.Wilfy Rebimbus. I saw Wilfy in Neerude when I was a little boy, and he must have been around 22 then. The hardwork he has put in and the mountains he has scaled to create an image for Konkani and for himself and Mangalore is unbelievable! He has a style which no one can match in South Canara. He has a voice which no soul has possessed so far! He has the tenacity which very few adventurers have. In addition to the other facets of his personality, his stage presence, his serenity and composure in the face are very rare to be found.

His songs like, "Lakshan Sangthan Haaon, Sarken...", Kalcha thya aithara maka ubgon ailee", or "Chamador pedru simaun, tho mujo baab" are sung in such a way so as to give complete expression to Wilfy's personality and soul. I used to really wonder at times, "God forbid" who will give us the voice after Wilfy? Now we have his son VISHVAS who is blessed with a golden voice which no one around can easily match! VOW! Good luck and God bless, UY. Roque

It is a nice gesture on the part of Wilfy Rebimbos and the team to come up with an opportunity to commemorate 50 years of achievements of United Youngsters. It is also delightful to see the pictures of so many familiar faces who have contributed so much for the simple but peaceful society of Mangalore 50 years ago.

In actual fact, the name "United Youngsters" was blossomed thru the efforts and vision of Wilfy's brother Ijju Rebimbos who started a Cricket team under this name. Behind Wilfy and Ijji Rebimbos there was always a dynamic shadow of their late brother, Gratian Rebimbos whose moral and physical support, thru his own quiet perseverence in those days was truly magnanimous and vividly remembered.

Those were the good old days to remember and cherish, and thank God for all the blessings bestowed upon all of us for our progress and prosperity in this "small world - a beautiful world". I wish I was in Mangalore during this time so that I would have met so many of Mangalorean stalwarts who have contributed so much for our neighbourhood and for our community.
