Nirbhaya case: SC dismisses last legal remedy of Mukesh Singh

New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS): With three days remaining in the scheduled execution of death penalties in the 2012 Delhi gangrape-murder case, the Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed convict Mukesh Singh's plea seeking judicial review of the rejection of his mercy petition by the President.

With this decision by the top court, Mukesh has exhausted the last legal remedy available to him against the death sentence.

A bench comprising Justices R. Banumathi, Ashok Bhushan and A.S. Bopanna said that all the relevant documents connected with the case were placed before the President and then a decision was taken on his mercy petition.

The court observed that the alleged ill-treatment and cruelty in jail is no ground to grant mercy to the convict. Also, Mukesh's counsel's contention that there was non-application of mind while rejecting his mercy petition was rejected by the court.

"President has acted expeditiously is no ground to hold that there was non-application of mind," said the court.

Meanwhile, Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi said,"I request the government, judiciary to introduce a guideline that in cases like these, the review, mercy petitions of convicts should be heard together."

"Everyone can see that these are delaying tactics. Court is doing its work and I have full faith that they will be hanged on February 1," she added.

As per Delhi court’s order, all the four convicts of Nirbhaya rape case will be hanged on February 1 at 6 am.

For these convicts every passing of a second, minute, day is so precious now. They never had such feeling, sympathy, value of others life, morals in life. Why they are anticipating things to improve and act in their favor. ? Just few days, breathe well, food may not get in and repent your sins with God.
Nothing can satisfy at the last stage but only your final prayers may give courage to face final moments.
    Good bye life.
