Mangalore, Oct 14: Union law and justice minister, M Veerappa Moily, disclosed that the new terminal of the international airport here, that has come up at Kenjarugiri near Bajpe, will be inaugurated before December this year, by Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh.
Speaking to the reporters in the city on Tuesday October 13, after receiving petitions from the people here, he observed that the work of the terminal has been almost completed. "I have already discussed the issue of the inauguration of this terminal with the Prime Minister. A date, which might fall at the end of November or first week of December, will be fixed soon for the inauguration. During his visit on this occasion, the Prime Minister will also initiate two major projects," he divulged.
Moily said that a sum of Rs 1.25 crore had been released and tender had been called, for undertaking repairs to the damaged Shiradi Ghat section of national highway 48. He said that a permanent solution for this stretch of the road, which gets damaged frequently, would be found by concreting the road. The project to widen the national highway 17 from Kundapur to Talapady is in the final stages, and a sum of Rs 50 crore will be released for this work shortly, he explained.
Moily said that some ammendments had been made to the Criminal Procedure Code, but the same had not yet been given affect to, because of the stiff opposition faced from the lawyers. A final decision about the implementation of these ammendments would be arrived at, after holding discussions at different levels, like the Bar Associations and different levels of courts, and further steps will be taken if there are genuine difficulties and objections about these ammendments, he revealed.
Moily claimed that sanctioning of a huge sum of Rs 1,000 crore by the central government to the state for flood relief, was the first of its kind in the country. He also decried statements being made by Yeddyurappa against the apathy of the central government, terming them as having been politically motivated.
