Mangaluru, Feb 1: In a ghastly incident reported from Mulky in the taluk, a youth was murdered by his own friends by slitting his throat. The incident happened in the early hours of Friday, January 31 by the roadside next to Vana Bhojana area in Karnad village.

Sharanappa (30) from Gadag district, who was a resident of Bijapur Colony at Mulky, lost his life in this incident. Sunny Babu (19) and his friend, Gullu (30) who are natives of Bihar, are the accused.

Sharanappa was a friend of the other two. On Thursday night, they had consumed liquor in a bar together. When they were walking together, a fight broke out between the friends on some silly pretext. When exchanging heated words, Sharanappa is said to have used some bad words about Sanny Babu's mother. Angered by this act, Sunny Babu slit Sharanappa's throat with a knife. It is said that Gullu helped him in this act.

People who have earlier worked with Sunny Babu said that he had often claimed that he had killed people in the past. He also used to swear that he would spare anyone who talks ill of his mother.

Sunny Babu used to work for a company in Karnad industrial area near Mulky. After the murder, he told his colleagues that he had killed Sharanappa. His clothes were blood-stained. The others contacted the owners of the company. The owners in turn informed the police. The police rushed to the spot and arrested both the accused.

After inquest, the mortal remains of Sharanappa were taken to Gadag.
