In Kashmir, bio-digesters being installed in houseboats

Srinagar, Feb1 (IANS): The Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) of Jammu and Kashmir has started the process of installing bio-digesters in households of the catchment area and some houseboats in the waterbodies.

The DRDO designed bio-digesters are being installed on pilot basis and their efficiency shall be under trial. A team of scientists from the DRDO are on a three-day visit here to ascertain the functioning of four bio-digesters which have been installed in the houseboats.

The process of installation of bio-digesters is being directly monitored by the Committee of Experts (CoE) constituted by the J&K High Court.

Houseboats on the Dal and Nigeen lakes in Srinagar are a major attraction for tourists visiting Kashmir.
