Kasargod: Roopashree was rendered unconscious before being immersed in water

Kasargod, Feb 1: The accused have revealed to the police macabre details about the murder of Roopashree, teacher of Miyapadav higher secondary school near Kumble.

The police have been told that the teacher in question was rendered unconscious before being immersed in a drum filled with water which caused asphyxiation.

The main accused, Venkataramana Karanth, had invited the teacher to his home in the guise of discussing some important issues. During her visit, the two exchanged heated words. As the verbal altercation became intense, Venkataraman attacked Roopashree. At this, she tried to flee.

In the meantime, Niranjan, who was hiding in the puja room of the house as per a plan that was conceived in advance, helped Karanth to hold Roopashree back. Her head was then banged against the wall, at which she lost her consciousness. Later, both of them lifted Roopashree, who was lying conscious on the floor, and immersed her in a drum full of water, and thus killed her, the investigating officers said. These details emerged during the interrogation of Karanth.

The crime branch is now investigating the case, and more details are expected to emerge. The police have registered case of murder, exploitation of women, destruction of evidence, conspiracy etc.
