New Delhi, Feb 1 (IANS): One look at the large-scale metal sculptures of Indian artist Dhananjay Singh, and one can place his work at the crossroads between the natural forms of man and nature, giving out a strong message of the inseparability of the two.

Singh, who is currently exhibiting his recent sculptures at the India Art Fair 2020 at the Art Pilgrim gallery booth, says that his basic inspiration is the tree of life.

"You can identify every living organism in the tree of life. I can identify not only the philosophical point of view, but I learn from the structure of a tree, the trunk branches into twids, then leaves and fruits. I employ that understanding into my work," Singh told IANS.

Nature works cells and tissues into various forms - whether inside the human body or in trees. Artistically merging the two in the medium of bronze and stainless steel, the artist plays with the form of faces and tree trunks and branches.

"I believe there is a primitive bond between man and nature, in which plants and trees primarily engrave a strong image in our minds not because they are a source of survival but because we see our own lives reflecting in them," he says.

With more mass and thicker metal wires making up his sculptures, the work comments on the environmental crisis humanity is facing and suggests the way out as man's reconciliation with nature.

The work is exhibited at the 12th India Art Fair till Sunday.
