Udupi: Bus-car head-on collision - Karkala businessman killed on spot

Udupi, Feb 3: In a tragic accident which took place on Monday, February 3 near Guddeyangadi under Hiriyadka police limits, a businessman from Karkala lost his life on spot.

The deceased, identified as K Krishna Pai (62), had come to Manipal in his car. The accident occurred near Sooraj Industries in Guddeyangadi the car and an oncoming bus collided head-on. Krishna died on spot. The car was left damaged beyond recognition.

It took around 30 minutes for police to remove the deceased’s body from the manageld remains of the car. It is said that Krishna had spoken to his son who is residing in Australia, just before the mishap. His other son is a lecturer in Alva’s Educational Institutions.

Hiriyadka police have registered a case and are conducting further investigation.

    As per reliable witnesses & friends who shared the photos near to that area it was said that car was being driven at high speed & due to loss of control car suddenly veered towards incoming Vishal bus, bus driver tried to avoid it as much as possible but everything happened in fraction of a second.

    We do not deserve better roads because we are fit to ride only Bullock carts....look at the number of accidents and death take place on highways with reckless driving habits. Even the most educated driving luxurious sedans use mobile phones while driving. Other day I wad shocked to see a man riding a bike with three school children on board using his mobile phone while moving on a busy road in Karkala with no fear and respect for four lives.

    everyone are busy at his own peril in India and that too in Mangalore and Udupi it is highest. Useless guys feel so important of themselves that, they forget that the life is too short and precious and above all it is very fragile..

    How many more innocent people will have to lose their lives till the necessary steps are taken.I feel our traffic police should have a speed limit on roads..especially curves and should heavily fine anyone for rash driving.

    It looks like head on collision with high speed and one of them were speeding more than 100 KM/hour.
    With the conditions of our road, even driving more than 80KM is risky on these roads..
    RIP to lost soul and hope the authorities will work to reduce such accidents in future.

    when behind wheels we all think we are Michael Schumacher. especially when we are driving a car we feel we are the only people who have important work and rest others need to wait. be it pedestrian crossing or be it signal . we do rush forward cursing people and I have seen this mostly with elderly people. It is unnecessary risk we are either putting ourselves or putting someone into. Well, not always bus drivers are at fault. We must understand when on road that, 1 the bus drivers are controlling a big machine and there can always be a error in judgement anyway it will hurt a person in small vehicles. 2. Bus drivers are carrying lot more passengers than the car is carrying and he must be given priority for the sake of his passengers.

    Anyway RIP To Mr. Pai and my above comments are truly not judging what or how it happened today.

    We don't know whose mistake here
    Episode tells us that he called just before the tragedy
    But I am sure he got confused after the call
    That's why better not to use mobile while driving
    It can happen to anyone even experienced driver's also got confused
    On Sunday I was traveling from udupi to santhekatte near karavali a man got down from bus and fell down he was fully drunk his skull banged to a nearby stone luckily nothing happened but if anything happened people would have blamed the bus staff!!

    Bus owners association has completely failed to control their drivers. They are behind collection and maintaining the timing. That's all . Least bothers about others.

    RIP Mr. Pai. May his family be bestowed with solace in their grief.

    Mr. Prabuji, yes, bus drivers are rash but here we don't know from the given pictures if the victim was overtaking without judging the speed of oncoming traffic. Yes, a life is precious but we must ensure safety before fatality, not regret or hurl abuses after. Therefore, lets rather pray for the deceased's soul and his family because now nothing can be undone.
