Mangalore: 'Love Jehad' Evokes Trouble in Mulky – Six arrested

Mangalore, Oct 17: Six members of a group were arrested by Mulky police for stopping a bus and creating a nuisance on Friday October 16. The incident was triggered following a newspaper article pasted inside the bus.
The group stopped a private bus near Karnad and demand the removal of the poster. They allegedly threatened the driver and conductor of the bus.
The arrested were identified as Siddik (30) Abdul Rizvan (23), Mubarak (30), Hussain (27) Hameed (25) and Sameem Akthar (24), all residents of Karnad near Mulky.
The private bus Valankani Travels on the B C Road – Mulky route was stopped by a group of men .They demanded the removal of the pasted newspaper cutting. The news reported from Cochin in Kerala, stated that the central intelligence team reported that 500 girls from the Hindu community were forcibly converted to Islam, as part of a Love Jehad.
When the group forced entry into the bus, the driver and the conductor tried to stop them. A quarrel started soon after. The crew insisted that the poster was pasted by unknown persons and they were not responsible for it.
Deputy Superintendent of police Girish said that the one of the arrested belonged to the Popular Front of India (PFI). He also stated that after further investigation it could be ascertained about the involvement of any other organization . He also said that investigation about pasting of the newspaper article will also be done.
Aboobakkar, Secretary of PFI, Zonal committee in Mulky condemned the incident and also confirmed that one of the arrested belonged to their organization.
Guddappa, the driver of the bus said that the group forcibly stopped the bus by blocking the road. He requested them to clear the road and let them go as he feared for the women passengers. He also expressed his dismay over the pasting of the newspaper article and said that it might have been done by one of the many passengers .
Mulky police has registered a case following a complaint given by Shivaprasad, conductor of the bus. Inspector Shivaprakash and Sub-inspector Sudarshan are investigating the case.
