Bengaluru, Feb 4: Two Karnataka cadre IPS officers and three other police officers are booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation for alleged involvement in the Rs 4,000-crore I-Monetary Advisory (IMA) scam.

The CBI had sought sanction from the state government to investigate the role of IPS officers Hemant Nimbalkar and Ajay Hilori in the IMA scam in December 2019. The government has accorded sanction on January 7.

Along with these two IPS officials, the CBI also named Gowri Shankar (then sub-inspector with Karnataka Police), EB Sridhara (then then DSP of CID, Karnataka Police) and M Ramesh (then Inspector with Karnataka police).

According to a source, the IPS officers and the police officials have allegedly accorded favours to IMA and there was a deliberate inaction on their part.

Nimbalkar, a 1998-batch IPS officer is the ACP (Admin) Bengaluru City while Hilori a 2008-batch IPS officer is the Commandant in Karnataka State Reserve Police.

On August 30, 2019, CBI had registered case against Mohammed Mansoor Khan, managing director of IMA Group of Companies and others. On November 8, 2019, the CBI had conducted raids at 15 locations in ponzi chit fund scam by multi-disciplinary investigating team. Mansoor Khan was arrested after he returned from Dubai and is currently in judicial custody.
