MI Jr tournament: Patankar bags six in emphatic SVIS win

Mumbai, Feb 4 (IANS): Swami Vivekanand International School (SVIS), Kandivali thrashed Bunt Sangha's S.M. Shetty International School, Powai by ten wickets on the second day of the Mumbai Indians Junior cricket tournament at Azad Maidan on Tuesday.

Their dominating victory in the Under-14 category was set up by SVIS bowler Kartik Patankar who grabbed a total of six wickets on the Elphinstone pitch.

Patankar's hostile bowling, which included a hat-trick, broke the back of Bunt Sangha's batting line-up and they were bowled out for a paltry 57 runs in 26.1 overs.

SVIS openers Pranav Sawant and Shaurya Sharan made short work of the chase, reaching the target in just 4.5 overs with Sawant blazing away with an unbeaten 30 while Sharan finished not out on 11. Patankar was later declared Player of the Match.

At the nearby pitch, Omkar Khose also sizzled with the ball to walk away with Player of the Match title. The Sri Ma Vidyalaya (Thane) bowler bagged a five-for against Lakshadham High School (Goregaon) to star in a four-wicket win in a low scoring match.

Lakshadham High School were all-out for 91 runs in 21.5 overs and Sri Ma Vidyalaya batsmen easily chased the target in 18.3 overs after losing six wickets. Khose steered his team home with an unbeaten 17 while batting under pressure.

Batting first, St. Paul's managed 115 in 26.1 overs before losing all their wickets. Bhike, who was also the youngest player of his team, showed maturity to anchor the innings smartly as St. Xavier's chased the target in 24.1 overs after losing eight wickets.
