Mangaluru, Feb 5: A two-day International Poets Conference ‘COSMOPOETICA’ will be organized by the PG Department of English, St Agnes College (Autonomous) on February 6 and 7 with international resource persons.
Dr Hima Urmila Shetty, former Associate Professor of the Department of English, St Agnes College will grace the inauguration as keynote speaker. International Resource Persons include Maggie Harris, Commonwealth Short Story Prize Regional Winner and award-winning poet of Broadstairs, Kent, England, and Dr Kathryn Hummel, Australian visiting professor at IIT, Hyderabad, and poet.
The participants will also be enriched by Prof Raj Rao, acclaimed poet and novelist, former HOD of English, Savithribai Phule University, Pune, and renowned Hindi poets, Vijay Tiwari from Ahmedabad and Lata Chauhan from Bengaluru. Dr Nagaveni Manchi, distinguished poet and professor, Government College, Car Street and Chandrakala Nandavara, former principal of Ganapati PU College will enhance audience experience with Kannada poetry sessions.
The conference will draw together poets of both national Indian languages and English, as also academicians to discuss poetry as genre and practice and to ignite the minds of students on issues central to the natural environment and women.
The conference will include workshops, three slam poetry contests and scholarly paper presentation sessions.
Dr Geralyn Pinto of the PG Department of English is staff convenor while Ananya Sneha of the II MA English is student convenor of the conference.
