Mangaluru: National level filmmaking seminar 'Shooting Stars 2020' to be held on Feb 10 at SAC

Mangaluru, Feb 8: The department of Journalism, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), here is organizing a national level seminar on filmmaking 'Shooting Stars 2020' on February 10 at the L F Rasquinha hall, LCRI block.

Based on the theme 'Behind the Screen', the seminar attempts to discern the tireless efforts of people who work away from the limelight of the screen during a film's creation. The seminar aims to motivate, inform and inspire aspiring filmmakers to explore broader horizons in the art of filmmaking.

Shooting Stars has had a glorious tradition of hosting eminent film personalities like Girish Kasarvalli, Anjali Menon, Pushkar-Gayathri and many others. Unabating this heritage, Shooting Stars 2020 will host Manvitha Kamath, a prominent sandalwood actress as the chief guest. She gained popularity for her acclaimed roles in movies like Kenda Sampige, Kanaka and Tagaru.

Johnson Rajkumar, Arun K R and Febin Jose will engage the gathering at a workshop on the importance and use of a 16 mm projector.

This will be followed by a panel discussion on the role of assistant directors and the importance of cinematography. The panel will consist of eminent assistant directors Shreekanth and Dennis Varghese. Prajwal Krishna, a student of 3rd BA, will presenting a paper titled 'Cultural Appropriation in Cinema'.

The seminar will conclude in the presence of Avinash Shetty, a well-known coastal wood actor who has worked in films such as Jai Tulunadu and Chapter.

Shooting Stars provides a platform for students and budding filmmakers to showcase their talents in various competitions such as documentary making, short filmmaking and photography. The winning entries will be screened during the seminar.

The motto of the college, 'Lucet et Ardet' which means 'Shine to Enkindle' has inspired countless students to become men and women for and with others, thus bringing light and joy into the lives of people. Thousands of students who passed through the portals of this institution rendered outstanding service to humankind not only in India but across the globe. The college is extremely proud of our alumni/ae who have turned into agents of radical social change.
