Muscat, Feb 9: Expats in Oman who are employed as sales or purchasing representatives cannot have their visas renewed, according to new rules issued by the country's Ministry of Manpower.
According to the Times of Oman under the new law visa cannot be renewed and expats are required to leave the country once the visa expires.
Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Bakri, Minister of Manpower, issued the decree, which added: "Licenses for recruitment of a non-Omani workforce, and work-permit licenses issued for professions specified in Article 1 of this decision shall apply until the date of their expiry."
According to Oman's National Centre of Statistics and Information, there are over 1.7 million foreign workers in Oman. The new law is implemented following the Omanisation initiatives of the government.
