Mangaluru: Guides Camp held at Carmel School

Mangaluru, Feb 10: A two-day Guides Camp was organized at Carmel School campus on February 7 and 8 wherein 60 guides participated in the camp.

The camp began with unfurling the guide’s flag. After hoisting the flag, Sr Sarika, the principal, Carmel School wished the guides through her inspirational words. Sr Rose Agnes, the administrator, Sr Gracy, the vice-principal, Sr Marlin, the co-ordinator were present during the inaugural.

After the inaugural, ‘Cooking without Fire’ was conducted. Students prepared delicious and healthy food items and presented them attractively after which a session on 'Estimation' was held by Lorna Crasta, Himalayan Wood Badge Holder and retired teacher, St Agnes High School.

A campfire was the highlight of the day. The guides were in their best to perform and entertain the parents, sisters and the invitees. Sr Maria Shubha, the secretary of The Apostolic Carmel Educational Society was the chief guest. In her message, she appreciated the wonderful performance of the students during the campfire and laws of guides that they showcased. This was followed by a shared meal for all. Guidelines on hiking were given to the students after the meals by Lathika.



The next day began with meditation conducted by Sr Gracy followed by an adventurous task of locating the clues and discovering the arrows that led to the destination. An unforgettable experience indeed! The day was full of activities with Shramadhan, games, craft, charcoal painting, knots, lashes etc. Reena Noronha, a nurse educator at BRS Mother and Child Hospital, Udupi was the resource person and taught the students about initial level first aid to be given in emergencies. Mr Mahesh, Art Education instructor conducted a charcoal painting session.

The two-day camp experience came to an end with the lowering of the flag. Guides captain, Lathika and Pavithra were in charge of the camp and the staff members Dimple, Shilas, Preethi, Shanthi, Evita and Nisha assisted in the smooth functioning of the guides' camp.
