Gulmarg to host national winter games from March 7


Srinagar, Feb 11 (IANS): The world famous ski destination Gulmarg in Kashmir is all set to host the five-day national winter games from March 7 under 'Khelo India', a national programme for the development of sports in the country.

Youth Services and Sports Secretary Sarmad Hafeez on Monday reviewed the arrangements for the mega event with the departments and stakeholders concerned.

The Secretary asked officials to constitute committees to ensure proper arrangements for the smooth conduct of the sporting event, including board and lodging and transport for guests and players alike.

Hafeez also directed the Information and Public Relations Department officials to liase with the visiting national and local media to ensure wide publicity for the event, besides organising cultural programmes as an added attraction for the participants.

He directed the Tourism Department authorities to ensure good publicity for the event via road shows currently going on across the country.

The meeting decided on putting event hoardings at airports and other prominent places.

As many as 30 sporting events under four disciplines, including snowboarding, skiing, cross-country and snow show, will be held for players coming from across India. On the sidelines, snow cycling and other games will be held for the children of locals.
