Bangalore: Infosys Employee Causes Flight to be Grounded Through Bomb Scare
Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)
Bangalore, Oct 26: A software professional named Abhishek Gupta(25) from UP, employed with software major Infosys in the city, was arrested from New Delhi domestic airport on Sunday October 25, for calling up the call centre of GoAir to create a bomb hoax and getting their city-bound flight from New Delhi delayed.
Abhishek was to catch the GoAir flight from New Delhi to the city scheduled to leave on Sunday October 25 morning. But Gorkhnath Express, the train he had caught to reach New Delhi, was running late. The flight was scheduled to leave at 8.45 am and the train, which was to reach New Delhi as per its time table, by 6 am, was inordinately delayed. Gupta, who was determined to reach the city on the same day and anxious that he would miss the flight, at first, called up the GoAir call centre to ask them to reschedule his journey and accommodate him on a later flight the same day. But, after his request was turned down, a desperate Gupta called the call centre again, saying that some suspicious object had been planted in the GoAir flight bound for Bangalore.
The flight, G8201, was grounded thereafter, and all the 164 passengers were asked to get down. The dog disposal squad, which was then pressed into service, could not find anything suspicious in the flight. Gupta, in the meantime, reached the airport at around 9.30 am and requested for the boarding pass. This aroused suspicion in the minds of the counter staff, and upon intensive questioning, Gupta confessed to have made the call, police officials said.
He was arrested and charged under different sections of Indian Penal Code. Infosys HR head, Mohandas Pai, said that investigations were on about the incident and the company would take appropriate action against the employee, if he is found to be guilty.
