Mumbai, Feb 14 (IANS): Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has urged Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh to ease burden on the cops who provide security during mega-events at huge personal inconveniences.
In his February 10 letter, released on Thursday, Pawar said to ensure security at functions/public meetings addressed by Ministers/VVIPs and other dignitaries, the cops had to stand for long hours.
"During such events, they remain standing for many hours. At times, there are delays that result in an unending wait and cause unnecessary agony to them. I don't think this is proper," said Pawar.
He requested Deshmukh to instruct the organisers of such events to ensure proper seating arrangements for the cops on duty. The Home Department could also make similar arrangements, he added.
Pawar personally handed over the letter to Deshmukh at the silver jubilee celebrations of the Gulabrao Patil Memorial Trust.
On the occasion, he also drew the Minister's attention to problems confronting the police force entrusted with multi-tasking, like crowd control, law & order and security duties at mega events.
