Panaji, Feb 15: Chief minister Pramod Sawant announced on Friday that Goa will possibly get a third district by next year that would include the Dharbandora taluka.
Sawant, who spoke after inaugurating the administrative building of the Dharbandora taluka, said the state's population was increasing and that facilities needed to be within reach of all people.
The CM maintained that a third district would help in the speedy development of the region.
During his tenure as minister, incumbent Congress Ponda MLA Ravi Naik had proposed a third district for the state by including the talukas of Ponda, Sattari and Sanguem and by setting up the headquarters in Ponda. Naik claimed that the move would benefit Mollem, Collem and Sanvordem. The residents of the three generally have to travel to Margao or Panaji to do their job.
