Popular Nigerian Seven's footballer taken into custody


Kozhikode, Feb 16 (IANS): Hugely popular Nigerian sevens footballer O.K. Emmanuel was picked up by Nagpur police based on an arrest warrant against him.

The Nagpur police official who took into custody Emmanuel from, here, when he arrived to take part in a Seven's football tournament told the media that there was an arrest warrant against him.

"The Nagpur police was looking for him, after he failed to appear for the trial, after getting bail, Ain a forged passport case registered against him in 2015. After hearing that he would be coming here, we came here and will now produce him before the court , there," said the Nagpur police official to the media.

Kozhikode and Malappuram districts holds a number of sevens tournaments andA foreign players, especially from Africa are a huge hit and Emmanuel is a hugely popular player here.

The Nagpur police presented Emmanuel before a local court, here, which gave the police a transit warrant.

Emmanuel, however clarified that his passport now is in order.
