Mumbai, Feb 17 (IANS): A massive fire broke out on the top floors of the ground plus eight-storied GST Bhavan in Byculla here on Monday morning but now has been controlled, officials said.
At least 30 fire-tenders were deployed to battle the blaze even as tongues of flames accompanied by thick clouds of smoke billowed out of the upper two floors.
The blaze, the cause of which is not yet clear, erupted around 12.30 am and was brought under control after a nearly three-hour operation by fire fighters.
The cooling operations are underway and there are no casualties in the incident, said the BMC Disaster Control.
State Finance Minister Ajit Pawar, Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi and other top officials visited the site of the blaze.
There were massive traffic snarls in parts of south Mumbai owing to traffic diversions and road blocks as the fire-fighting was underway.
