Mangalore: Konkani Kutam Bahrain Announces Literary, Singing, Skit Competitions

Mangalore, Oct 28: Konkani Kutam Bahrain, a forum of Konkani writers, artistes, activists and likeminded is completing ten glorious years in the service of Konkani language and culture.
Richard Moras, Konkani writer and activist leading the association for the decade through his dynamic organizational skill, is planning to organize various competitions and activities to promote Konkani language and culture.
The forum has thus announced various competitions to mark their decennial celebrations in January 2010. The four competitions that will be held are Konkani short story competition, Konkani poetry competition, Konkani group singing competition and Konkani comedy skit competitions.
The short story should be within 2,400 words, original and not published in any media so far. The cash reward for the first and second prizes are Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 each. As far as the poetry is concerned, the poetry too should be original and not published so far. The information of author including e-mail ID, telephone or mobile number, should be written separately in a paper along with story and poetry.
The organizers have the discretion to publish the stories or poetry in Konkani weeklies/monthly or journals even with the byline of respective author. The entries can be sent to e-mail: titustn@gmail.com and the last date to receive the entries is Sunday December 20.
The first twelve groups that enroll for the competition will get the chance to compete at the Konkani group singing competitions. A group can consist of 6 – 10 persons. The organizers will provide the music troupe. Only Konkani songs are allowed while the duration is limited from 5 to 7 minutes.
The competition will be held on January 15. The cash reward for the first and second prizes are Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 each.
Even for the Konkani comedy skit competition, the first twelve groups that enroll for the competitionwill get the chance, while each comedy skit is limited from 8 to 10 minutes. An extra 3 minutes will be allowed for setting the stage. At least one woman artiste should be in a group of 4 to 7 artistes (in case of all women artistes, there should be at least one male artiste).
The entries should be registered by Sunday December 20. The competitions will be held on January 14.
Prize Presentation
All prizes will be presented during the valedictory ceremony scheduled to be held at Kalaangann here on January 16.
