Aravind Adiga's Second Novel to be out in 2011

Bangalore / New Delhi, Oct 29 (IANS) After winning the 2008 Man Booker Prize for his debut novel, "The White Tiger", Indian-born author Aravind Adiga will publish his second venture "Last Man in the Tower" in early 2011, the author's publisher said Thursday.

The Indian rights for Adiga's new novel have been acquired by HarperCollins India.

Unlike his first novel which was set in New Delhi, Adiga's second book is set in the business capital of the country, Mumbai.

V.K. Karthika, chief editor and publisher at HarperCollins India, said: "'Last Man in the Tower' is a sweeping novel about contemporary India, more particularly Mumbai. Adiga's characters are unforgettable, his prose riveting."

The fourth Indian-born author to win the Booker Prize - others being Salman Rushdie, Arundhati Roy and Kiran Desai, Adiga had over 150,000 copies of the hardback version of his "The White Tiger" sold since its publication in April 2008.

The paperback version of the book is due to be out in December this year.

I too agree that this novel cannot be his second novel,as he has 2 novels already published. The first being 'The White Tiger' and the second one 'Between the Assassinations' which is actually based on Mangalore and has all the landmarks of mangalore except that their names have been changed,For eg St Aloysius College to St.Alphonse College.I have read both the novel and they were very good. This novel will be his third one.

Aravind Adiga will publish his second venture "Last Man in the Tower" in early 2011. How is this possible that the above novel is Arvind Adiga's second novel? I am having this doubt because I already have 2 novels of Arvind Adiga with me. One is of course "THE WHITE TIGER" published in 2008 by HarperCollins Publishers India. The second novel is called "BETWEEN THE ASSASSINATIONS" published in 2008 by Picador an imprint of Pan Macmillan Ltd. London. I liked the book "Between the Assassinations" more than "The White Tiger".

The latter was a bit boring in parts whereas the former novel feels so familiar in terms that though the place is called Kittur in the novel, it has resemblence to Mangalore surroundings and those who studied in St.Aloysius College will definitely relive those moments again after reading "Between the Assassinations". If any of the readers have more information on this, pls. give your opinion. Or I think it would be better if Daijiworld could get clarification from the author himself, i.e., Mr. Arvind Adiga.
