Bangalore, Oct 30: In a dramatic development that took the BJP leadership by surprise on Friday, Oct 30, the Karnataka BJP's rebel faction, led by the Reddy Brothers, claimed that they have the support of 70 party MLAs. Hectic political activities were witnessed in the capital city, Bangalore, since the early morning. Chief Minister (CM) Yeddyurappa, central leader Arun Jaitley, state BJP chief, Sadanada Gowda, and MP Ananth Kumar met and had a final round of discussions on the current developments that have created a crisis for the state BJP.
Ananth Kumar, speaking to the reporters, said that he is optimistic about finding an amicable solution for the problem very soon. He said, during the meeting attended by all the top leaders of the party, RSS leaders, and various other party leaders, the issue of dissidence was discussed threadbare. He said he would be leaving for New Delhi this afternoon, to apprise the current situation to the high command.
Sadananda Gowda, state BJP chief, claims that 80% of the internal problems bothering the party have been solved, and that within a week, things will be back to normal. He explained that he had spoken to dissident leaders like Karunakar Reddy, Jagadish Shettar and others and got himself acquainted with reasons for their disgruntlement. "Looking at both the angles, respective demands of leaders from both the factions, and the actual problems on hand, we are confident that we are in the final phase of solving the problem once and for all," he claimed.
Ananth Kumar, speaking to the media in Bangalore said he too had lent an ear to the complaints put forth by the Reddy Brothers. While terming the problem as minor, he expressed the confidence that the same will be solved within the party, as every one in the BJP including the Reddy Brothers, do not want the issues to get undue publicity.
On the other hand, two teams of legislators, said to be owing allegiance to the Reddy Brothers, have already landed in resorts in Hyderabad and Goa. Goa's posh ‘Lalith International’ and ‘Novatel Hotel’ in Hyderabad have become the hotspots for deciding the political future of Karnataka.
Sources close to the Reddy Brothers have claimed that the Reddy’s are ahead in the number game, with 70 legislators supporting them, and that these legislators are being shifted to the resorts to ensure that the pro-Yeddy camp is not able to communicate with them and try to lure them back into its fold.
Senior political analysts in Bangalore say that Friday is very important for Karnataka, as speedy political twists and turns can occur on this day, and by evening, the political scenario might head to a specific direction.
At around 10.30 am on Friday, Sriramulu and Jagadish Shettar, along with some of the MLAs supporting them, met at Shettar's house for a secret meeting.
