Mangalore: St Aloysius School Regional Champ of ‘Hindu-Youngworld Quiz ‘09’

Mangalore, Oct 31: Prashant Bhat and Saandeepa T N of St Aloysius High School, Kodialbail, emerged champions in the Mangalore regional round of ‘The Hindu-Young World Quiz ‘09’ held at the Town Hall here on Friday October 30.
The duo will now travel to Coimbatore and represent Mangalore region at the grand finale on Friday November 6.
Sanjan Prakash and Vaishnavi Satish of Lourdes Central School, Bejai, bagged the second place. Sunil H S and Aditya P K of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, Panambur, were placed third.
Keerthan Shetty and Himanshu Varghese from MRPL School were at the fourth place. Amith M B and Rajath M from Vivekananda English Medium School, Puttur, and Prahlad M Kamath and Manikya B S from Sri Venkataramana English Medium School, Kundapur, came fifth and sixth, respectively.
A total of 350 teams from Mangalore city and its suburbs as well as various taluks of Dakshina Kannada district in addition to Udupi, Chikmangalur, Kodagu, Kannur, Kasargod, Hassan, and Hubli-Dharwad, participated in the event. The competition was open to students from Class VII to IX.
The multi-round event played out in front of a large audience and the venue remained packed until the final result was out. Certificates were given to all participants while members of the audience who gave correct answers during the ‘Audience Round’ got a ‘Penguin Year Book’ as a prize.
S&M Kids Wear was the title sponsor and Kalasilingam University the associate sponsor of the quiz. The national sponsors are Black Thunder, Tamilnadu Mercantile Bank Ltd, Gold Winner, Hatsun Agro Foods Ltd. (Arokya), Vizag Steel Plant, Lotte India, Crocs Shoes, Firefox Bikes, Britannica Encyclopaedia, Penguin Books, Cherry Blossom, and Reynolds. Dabur Real Fruit Juice is the beverage sponsor.
The regional sponsors from Mangalore were P A College of Engineering, St Joseph Engineering College, New Mangalore Port Trust, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. The event was managed by ‘I Ads & Events’.
Director of the National Institute of Technology-Karnataka, Surathkal Sandeep Sancheti was the chief guest of the function and gave away the prizes.
Addressing the students at the gathering, Sancheti said that events such as this would go a long way in making them fully-rounded and successful individuals in life.
