Beltangady: State Releases Rs 20 Crore for Road Repairs Ahead of Tulu Convention

Beltangady, Nov 1: The state government has released Rs 20 crore towards repairing all key roads across the taluk and Ujire town ahead of Vishwa Tulu Sammelan (Tulu world convention) scheduled to be held in December, said MLA Vasant Bangera.
Addressing a press conference held here on Saturday October 31, MLA said that the funds were released by state administration, on the recommendations from Dharmasthala dharmadikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade and Dakshina Kannada district administration minister Krishna J Palemar. The released amount of Rs 20 crore are meant for repairing Kadur – Kanhangad at Rs 7.5 crore, Periyashanti – Dharmasthala road at Rs 2 crore, Guruvayankere – Naravi road at Rs 1 crore, Beltangady – Moodbidri road at Rs 2 crore, Suratkal – Kabaka road at Rs 60 lac, Mangalore – Atrady stretch of state highway at Rs 90 lac, Uppinangady – Guruvayankere road at Rs 3 crore and Rs 3 crore for repairing the roads in the neighbourhood of Ujire, he added.
The taluk has got the lion’s share of state funds at Rs 16.1 crore while a further requisition of Rs 3 crore has been sent to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, in order to repair roads under the zilla panchayat (ZP), he said. “The repairs to all roads will be completed by end of November, while the contractor will be solely responsible for the quality of road works,” he said.
Block Congress president Harish Kumar, ZP member Shahool Hameed, taluk panchayat member Eshwar Bhat, Chandu L and Sebastian were present.
