Mangalore: Anuradha Dhareswar is Fifth Recipient of ‘Kalakar Puraskar’

Mangalore, Nov 2: The ‘Kalakar Puraskar-2009’ of Thomas Stevens Konkani Kendr and Carvalho Gharane was presented to Anuradha Dhareswar for her unique contribution to Konkani music, at Kalangann, on Sunday November 1.
The award was given away by Fr George Santhumayer, Superior of Carmelites, Bikarnakatte, in the presence of Prathap Nayak of Goa, Levis Pinto, president of Mandd Sobhann, Sidhanath Buyao, and Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann.
The award presented by Mandd Sobhann to a deserving Konkani artist of the state, consists of a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation, and a trophy.
Arun Raj Rodrigues (theatre) Joel Pereira (music), Harry D’Souza (brass band) and Rev Charles Vaz (devotional music) are the former recipients of this award.
Speaking after the presentation, Fr Santhumayer said, “Konkani organizations working for art, music, and culture of the Konkani language should continue and recognizing personalities who have contributed to the growth of the language is also essential to encourage people’s involvement in service to the language”.
Anuradha expressed her happiness over the honour and said, “Such service of honouring should be continued by selecting each and every one who works for the Konkani language and the field of music. The language and work done by the organizations for it should reach every village”.
Anuradha from Dharwad is a Konkani singer and also into light music. She is the recipient of the ‘Sanatha Shishunala Shareefa’ award for ‘Sugama Sangeetha’ (light music).
A tribute to Goem Shahir Buyao, a musical programme by Sidhanath Buyao and his troupe, was also organized as part of the 95th monthly theatre. Songs, dances, and jokes were all performed by the troupe.
‘Valley of Colourz’, a musical CD brought out as a tribute to the musician was released by Eric Ozario during the programme.
Singers Akshtha Kavalikar, Saish Palodiakar, Vinod, and Santhosh Lotlilkar performed during the programme with Sidhanath Buyao.
‘Nach Sobhann’ members performed the dances. Ananth Agni was the master of the ceremony.
