Bangalore: CM Loyalists Challenge Detractors to Face Election

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Nov 5: At a time when the stalemate caused to the functioning of the state government by the insistence of the Reddy camp for replacing the Chief Minister has reached a decisive phase, some ministers and MLAs loyal to Yeddyurappa have posed a new challenge to the dissident group.

This group, which had been insistent that there is no need for affecting a change in the guard, met at Vidhan Soudha, as soon as Yeddyurappa left for Delhi on Wednesday November 4. “If there is no other go but to replace Yeddyurappa, let the detractors face the election again,” they said.

Food and civil supplies minister, Haratal Halappa, labour minister B N Bacche Gowda, MLAs Moodal Virupakshappa, S R Vishwanath, Muniraju, Sunil Valyapure, Lalaji R Mendon, Valmiki Nayak, MLC Tontadarya and chief whip Jeevaraj strongly favoured holding of a fresh election for the constituencies represented by the dissidents, instead of affecting a change in the state leadership.

Speaking on behalf of the ministers and MLAs present, food and civil supplies minister, Haratal Halappa, felt that those who demand Yeddyurappa’s scalp, should face the election afresh. “At the time of seeking votes in the last election, we had declared that Yeddyurappa would be our chief minister. On that basis, the people had voted for us. The people wanted Yeddyurappa to become the Chief Minister. If we change him, it would be against the verdict of the people. Let those who are hell bent on removing Yeddyurappa seek a fresh mandate from the people, projecting the leaders of their choice as the next Chief Minister,” he said, in an apparent challenge to the disgruntled legislators.
