Namibia boxer Jonas qualifies for Tokyo Olympics


Windhoek, Feb 27 (IANS): Namibian boxer Jonas Junias Jonas has qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games, beating Morocco's Abdelhaq Nadir in a qualifying tournament on Wednesday in Dakar, Senegal.

Speaking to Xinhua from Dakar, the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist said he was pleased with his win and hopes to make history in Tokyo by winning gold.

"It was a very tough fight but I managed to get through," said Jonas. "It has always been my dream to be at the Olympic Games. My aim is to win a gold medal like I did at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

"Regarding becoming a professional, my coach and I will decide the best way forward after the Olympics," the light welterweight added.
