Mangaluru: Woman jumps off Netravati bridge, body recovered at Ullal

Mangaluru, Feb 29: Bridge across Netravati river on the way to Thokkottu from the city, which is infamous for several suicides, witnessed one more act of killing self.

The deceased has been identified as Uma Prakash (42). The woman had reportedly jumped from the bridge on the evening of Friday, February 28, in a bid to end her life. Her bag and footwear was found on the railway tracks on the bridge.

The body of the woman was found on Saturday, February 29, at Ullal by a local fisherman Simon.

A case in this regard was registered at Kankanady police station on Friday. 

The body has been shifted to mortuary at Wenlock hospital.

    People who say measures must be taken to build fences to avoid don't understand that people would find other ways to kill themselves.you don't have to be an intellectual to understand that. This is much more bigger than building god-damned fences. Understand depression. That would be a good start to avoid future issues. Condolences to her family. Now she's at peace.

    Simple solution is to build a 6 ft fencing on both sides of the bridge. When administration wastes crores of rupees on unwanted flyovers like the one in kuntikana and kottara chowki, Why can't it spend on life saving measures.

    dp mangalore ,one who wants to end life will do it without or with fence at Netravati.Better to have a anonymous telefon free adviser to call and take advice when one has problems and want to end life .Nowadys such suecides have increased .Specially women suffer at home under in laws,husband ,dowry conflict.Many men suffer financial ruin ,and see no way out.Fence is not really a help.some go to railway tracks.may her soul rest in peace.Life has become very stressig.

    There's already a place by that name in Maharashtra's scenic hill station at Mahabaleshwar (Panchgani). Rename it as a Suicide Lake instead.

    If it's a tourist spot, then more tourists will come for suicide. More problem for administration.. it's better to keep vigil day and night like India and Pakistan border.
