Mangaluru: Minister Byrathi Basavaraj directs to stop work over Kudroli slaughterhouse

Mangaluru, Feb 29: As there are many complaints from the public, Byrathi Basavaraj, minister for urban development asked the concerned officials of MCC to stop any developmental work related to the existing slaughterhouse in Kudroli.

The minister further said that a separate spot will be given for slaughterhouse after the same is identified by MCC and all developmental work will be done there. He was speaking at the progress review meeting that took place at the Mangala auditorium in the city.

Referring to the pending works of road repairing and drainage the minister asked the concerned officials to complete them on priority before the rainy season begins. These works are done under Rs 25 crore that is allotted for the city development.

Giving details of the progress of smart city project, Mohammed Nazeer, MD of the project said that four works out of the 47 works identified are already completed and 27 are under progress. DPR (Detailed Project Report) is underway for five developmental works, while tender is called for 11 other works.

The minister instructed the officials concerned with smart city project to speed up work as two years have already elapsed. He further stressed that all the works related to this project should be completed within the specified time allotted for that work.

Mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar, MLC Ivan D'Souza, MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, deputy mayor Vedavathi, MCC commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar and DC Sindhu B Rupesh were in the meeting.

‘Take stringent action against guilty’ - Minister Basavaraj on compound collapse tragedy

Basavaraj urged Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner to take stringent action against those found guilty regarding the compound wall collapse at Karangalpady which claimed lives of two labourers.

Addressing media at Circuit House on Saturday, February 29, he said, "Minister has already declared compensation for the deceased from the labour department. At the same time, showcause notice has been issued to the builder and structural engineer.

“Even the builder will have to provide Rs 5 lac compensation to the family of the deceased. I have directed the MCC commissioner to take the compensation from builders and hand it over to the family of the deceased,” said Basavaraj.

Mangaluru North MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty, former mayor Bhaskar Moily, MCC commissioner Ajith Kumar and joint commissioner Santhosh Kumar was also present.
