Bantwal, Feb 29: In a rare and exemplary act of patriotism, 16 former soldiers were honoured during a marriage function that took place at Mudipu village of the taluk.

Dhriti and Uttama got married and decided to felicitate former soldiers during their marriage to express their gratitude to the former defence personnel who protect our country.

"We have honoured the soldiers. If we get a good night's sleep it is because of these men. Only soldiers can protect us from the continuous onslaught by the enemies," said Rajaram a member of the family where the marriage was held.

Sahadharivi, a youth and a relative, said, "I do not think this kind of programme has taken place anywhere else. This is a trend setter. We have seen various kinds of marriages. But this will inspire the young generation that has attended this marriage."

Thanking the family for felicitating, former soldier Mojin Bhat said, "I thank the people of this family for identifying our service to the nation and felicitating us. Most of the people get information about soldiers and other defence personnel through social media. But meeting us personally and getting first hand information is different. Youth also get information about joining defence forces. In addition, many people have to join the Indian defence force from our area. All have got good opportunities in defence."

Many have lauded couple Dhriti and Uttama for this unique and trend setting act on their day of marriage.
