Muscat, Nov 7: The Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish, (MCCP, Sts. Peter & Paul Church – Ruwi) organized the Annual Cricket Tournament for Adults (ladies and gents) on Friday, 6th November 2009 at the Muscat Sports Club, Al Wadi Al Kabir. 

The enthusiasm for this event was evident from the fact that many participants reached the venue well in advance for the registration. The tournament commenced at 10:00 am with the opening prayer by Lavina D'Sa, the Cultural Secretary of MCCP. Ajith Rajesh Walder, the sports secretary Emcee’d the program. Suraj Rebello, the vibrant president of MCCP extended warm and hearty welcome to the members and participants. Vincent Machado, Deputy Managing Director of the prominent business house, Saud Bahwan Group was the chief guest of the occasion and was escorted to by Monica Dantis, the  Vice President - Cultural, Spiritual & CS Committee.

The first phase of tournament kicked off with the men below 40 years. Sunil D’sa and his team (wining team) consisting of Lynel Lobo, Ashok D’ Souza, Oswald D’ Souza , Wilson Lobo, Rakesh, Roshan Monis , Jackson, Kewin Rodrigues, Alan Saldhana showing their fine skills of cricket game in all levels and won the trophy. Lancy Lobo (runners-up) and his team consisting of, Sunny, Pravin, Prakash, Prashanath, Walter, Staney, Prem, Joyson, Vivian and Sachin was the runners up team. 

Second phase of tournament was held for veterans, the grand masters of the game for players above 40 years. Donald Fernandes (Wining team) captained his marvelous team of Fredric Tauro, Stanley Pereira, Vincent, Jude Fernandes, Edward, Michael, Louis Pereira, Alex Crasta, Albert Almaida and Rudolf Rodrigues to bag the winners trophy in an exciting match and Donald Pinto (Runners up) and his team, Peter Serrao, Jerry Monis, Norbert Dsouza, Dolphy Frank, Thomas, Michael Fernandes, Wilfred D Souza, John Gonsalves, Charles Lobo, Henry were the runners up.  
















































The ladies tournament was enjoyed by all the spectators. MCCP ladies excellent skills and know how of cricket was demonstrated in some very tough and close matches. In a exciting and classic match, Jessie Pereira (Wining Team) and her team Sunitha Nazareth, Victoria Soares, Gracy Castelino, Aslita D Souza, Severine Gonsalves, Leera Aranha , Veena Mascarenhas won the first place and Priscilla Machado (Runners up) and her team Lavina Pinto, Philomena Mendonca, Lucy Sequeira, Felcy Frank, Rita Nazareth, Nora Vas, Philomena Saldana, Rita D’souza got the second place. 

The winners and runners up received their coveted trophies from Vincent Macado, Stanley Fernandes , Henry Martis, Eula Pinto and Valerian Dantis. Monica Dantis proposed the vote of thanks. 

Keeping us entertained with their brilliant commentary were Brain Curie, Lancy Pinto and Cannon D Souza. On the field, our Referees for the tournament were Vimochan Nair and Ravi 

The sponsors for this event were Vincent Machado & fly , Areej Vegetable Oil and derivatives Zahrat Al Rawda and National Tea (Mumtaz tea).

The day was packed with total entertainment for MCCP members, their families and for those who loved cricket. The members thoroughly enjoyed watching their favourite game and it was great fun for each and everyone present there. 

The arrangements were par excellence as usual with utmost care to provide full comfort and entertainment to the participants.

As the trumpet was blown by Lanston Pinto for the cheering team and the twist and cheer my little angles we the member say …Kudos to Suraj and his vibrant team.
