Panaji, Mar 3: Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Monday alleged that BJP created a situation wherein Delhi violence was possible.
“If you have to look at the entire violence, of the past two months, Delhi had become ‘barud ka dher’ and BJP had a major role to play in that,” AAP’s Delhi MLA, Atishi said speaking on Prime TV’s show 'Prime Encounter' in Goa on Monday.
“So many of their ministers, leaders, made such strong hate speeches. They created a situation of wanting to polarize votes. Wanting to make it a Hindu versus Muslim situation,” she alleged.
“But they were unsuccessful, but when you create a volatile situation, you cannot control a flare up which happens,” Atishi said.
The AAP leader said that the flare up started when strong statements were made by BJP leader Kapil Mishra. It was a direct incitement to violence.
“BJP created the situation in which this riot became possible. What happens in a situation of violence is in nobody’s control. The central government should have acted quickly to control the violence,” she added.
Arvind Kejriwal-led party also said that it was a gross negligence of Delhi police through which the riots were allowed to continue for almost three working days.
She said that the Army could have been brought in by the centre to control the riots in Delhi, which was not done.
The AAP leader was in Goa as part of the party’s initiative to strengthen its base in the coastal state.
“For 48 hours, police could not control the riot, why was the army not called in. It almost seems that there was gross negligence through which the riots were allowed to continue for almost three working days,” she said.
Atishi said that the violence was going on for 48 hours before police force or CRPF came in. One of the things Kejriwal asked what that why was army not called in.
“Whether Delhi police allowed violence to happen? It is difficult to say that, because you can see a lot of policemen were also injured in the violence,” she said.
When asked why Kejriwal remained silent against the home ministry over the failure of law and order machinery, Atishi said, “When there is a situation of violence, Arvind Kejriwal is not just a leader of Aam Admi Party, but he is also a chief minister of Delhi.”
“So as a chief minister his responsibility is also that the situation stabilizes. We were very clear with the fact that the time when violence is on or relief efforts are on, we as a political party or as a government, we do not make the situation more volatile,” she said.
Atishi said that AAP and the Delhi government made it very clear that there was law and order crisis.
“The law and order comes under the home ministry, that is under Amit Shah. And this is the question that we have immediately asked that why is it that Delhi police was unable to control the violence,” she added.
