Bangalore: Opposition Leaders Harp on Sullied Images of State, CM’s Post

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Nov 9: Leader of the opposition in the state assembly, Siddaramaiah, reacting strongly to the compromises made by the Chief Minister (CM), B S Yeddyurappa to buy truce with the Reddy camp, criticized the CM by saying that he has mortgaged his post by accepting all the demands of the Reddy camp. “Yeddyurappa, by choosing to put up his own dignity for sale for saving his position, has insulted democracy. There has not been a precedent of a CM stooping to such levels,” he commented.

Siddu felt that the CM has bowed his head before the Reddy brothers, to douse the dissidence and to ensure that he retains his post. He never behaved like a man heading the government. This is an insult to the people of the state, he felt.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, R V Deshpande, felt that the compromise formula is a ‘marriage of compulsion’ held under the priesthood of L K Advani in Delhi, between Yeddy and Reddy brothers. He predicted that this marriage will not last long. “Because of the bitter fight between the two BJP factions, there was no government in the state since the last 15 days, creating a vacuum. In the national level, the honour of the state has been undermined because of this development,” he criticized.

State JDS president, H D Kumaraswami, congratulated the leaders of both the BJP factions for ending the anarchy created by their tussle, and avoiding the enforcement of the President’s rule in the state. “Because of internal dissatisfaction among different leaders of the BJP, dissidence had cropped up. They should have solved the problem by sitting together. They took too long to strike a compromise. At least now, they should  work unitedly for the development of the state,” he felt.
